Jack Brown – Company Director

Jack

Jack began his fishing journey on the local stretches of the grand union canal in Leighton Buzzard at the tender age of 5, catching Gudgeon, Perch, Daddy ruff and all manner of smaller species that would submerge his float.

Naturally, at the age of 10 bigger species became of interest, catching his first carp of around 10lb, again on the grand union. The bug had well and truly taken hold and for the last 20 years Jack has fished all over the UK and Europe trying to outwit large wary carp.

Amassing an impressive CV of big carp from the UK to his name, with numerous 40 and 50lb carp caught from a variety of different water types and fishing situations.

With limited time now, Jack fishes one overnighter a week through the productive periods, but always makes the effort to walk, pre-bait when possible prior to his session.

During the colder months Jack will now pack away the carp rods and fish short sessions on the rivers/canals for Perch and Chub. A great way of getting your fishing fix without sitting under a Bivvy in the cold and dark.

Jack has been involved within the tackle industry for both Browns Angling and other major brands for over 10 years.

Jake Goodger – Group Angling Manager

Jake

Jake started fishing at the age of seven, mostly for small fish on the Grand Union Canal, when he visited his Grandad who was not an angler himself. It was really up to Jake and his older brother to teach themselves through their early years fishing.

Growing up in the Nene Valley meant that he spent much of his school years fishing the gravel pits in and around the area; never making it easy for himself from young age!

Jake is an out and out carp angler but every winter he pulls himself away for a few months and refine his skill for other species.

After a few years away Jake is back fishing in the heart of the Nene Valley, on a water he has dreamed of fishing since he was a very young lad… and loving every minute of it.

Jake currently fishes one overnighter a week, so time is precious to me on the bank, so he tries to use it wisely.

Toby Nathan

Toby

Toby cut his teeth float fishing on canals and estate lakes in his early years, targeting all species. In fact, Toby’s earliest memory is fishing at the age of 3 with his Dad and older brother in the winter. Toby recalls breaking the ice in order to get fishing and having to run up and down the bankside to stay warm! Since then, angling has always been a massive part of his life.

Carp fishing has dominated most of his angling in the last 15 years or so, on both UK waters and wild untapped lakes overseas.

Immersing himself in nature is what gives him the thrill. There’s always much to learn!

Andy Conybeare

Andy

Andy has been Treasurer and bailiff for Dunstable Angling Club for the last decade and has a great all round understanding of the sport. He finds enjoyment in everything from jigging for perch in the canal to hauling big carp out of local clubs and syndicates. With UK carp to mid 30’s and fish to mid 40’s abroad he‘s no stranger to a ‘chunk’! Working in the angling trade certainly hasn’t suppressed his hunger for the sport and can be found most lunch breaks spending a quick half hour trying to catch anything with gills. A very friendly and approachable member of the team, Andy is always on hand.

Nick Smith

Nick

Nick first got into fishing at the age of 6 when his older brother took him fishing on the Grand Union Canal. Since then, Nick has developed into an out and out carp angler learning from his brother and grandad.

Back in 2019, Nick fished the BYCAC (British Young Carpers Angling Championship) at Linear Fisheries where he to fish a 24 hour qualifying round on Hardwick Smiths and ultimately the 48 hour final on Oxlease where Nick lead the pack for 36 hours however ended up finishing 4th overall, winning his section.

Nick Now enjoys fishing Syndicates during his spare time.

Tom Smith

Tom

Tom, much like his brother Nick, started fishing from an early age with his grandfather at Cosgrove Caravan Park for small fish. From here, the natural progression for Tom was to target some of the bigger species such as bream and ultimately Carp.

For the last 15 years, Tom has been heavily invested in Carp fishing. Fishing all over the county of Bedfordshire to try and catch some of Bedfordshire’s jewels.

In the winter and colder months is when Tom invests most of his fishing time to Lure Fishing on the local rivers and canals. Tom says it gives him that ‘quick fix’, but can also be a method that requires minimal effort and less time.

Keith

Keith started fishing on the Grand Union Canal at the age of six.

He is well known in the local angling community, having cut his teeth on many waters in the area and through his involvement with local clubs.

A true all rounder, he’s just as happy fishing for gudgeon on the canal as fishing the French rivers for large catfish. His pb list boasts 40lb+ English carp, 14lb+ barbel & zander and 2lb+ roach. These days he’ll often be found fishing the quiet places with cane rod and centre pin and writing his online blog THE INTREPID PISCATOR.

Having been at the Leighton Buzzard shop since it opened, he now has a new role as Web/Media Manager.
